National Kidney Foundation

Phi Sigma Sigma nationally supports the National Kidney Foundation as our primary philanthropic endeavor. In the last two decades since partnering with NKF, our collegiate chapters have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the organization, which promotes both basic and clinical research, education, recruitment for its organ donor program, assistance for kidney transplants, patient and family support groups, and public education about kidney disease. With funding from the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, NKF has produced educational literature and media presentations, supported summer camps for children afflicted with kidney disease, funded medical research, and set up a toll-free hotline for those seeking information on kidney-related illnesses.

Many Phi Sig chapters across the country, including ours, host an annual Rock-a-Thon: a rocking chair marathon during which we collect donations for the NKF. Rock-a-Thon this year was on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at College Green on Penn's campus, where we raised over $660 in 11 hours.

Our chapter also hosts a bi-annual Jeans Fundraiser. This spring, the chapter raised over $750 for the National Kidney Foundation through the jeans party.

To support our philanthropy, Phi Sigma Sigma at Penn now sells apparel, which can be purchased by sisters, alumnae, or as a gift for your favorite Phi Sig sister! Visit our store here.

Additionally, our entire chapter participates in the annual Rena Rowan Ribbon Run, hosted by the Panhellenic Council to raise money for breast cancer research. This year we have also entered multiple teams for Relay for Life.
